M.E.T. SERVICES TO MARINERS

PUBLISHER AND DISTRIBUTOR. Marine Education Textbooks publishes its own line of nautical textbooks and related publications and distributes nautical textbooks of other publishers.

LICENSE STUDY RECOMMENDATIONS (LSR). Marine Education Textbooks publishes information about the availability and cost of study material to prepare for many Coast Guard license exams. Use these recommendations along with information furnished by the Coast Guard Regional Exam Centers (REC) to select the study material that best serves your needs. These license study recommendations (LSR) are available to our customers without charge. However, be sure to tell us which USCG license or document you plan to prepare for.

RETAIL NAUTICAL BOOKSTORE. Marine Education Textbooks operates a retail outlet at 124 North Van Ave., Houma, LA. We are open Monday through Thrusday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Time. We are closed on Fridays, weekends and holidays and each year between Christmas and New Years. We have an after hours pickup box available for our local customers. We welcome VISA, MASTERCARD and AMERICAN EXPRESS orders by phone or fax.  Our telephone answering machine (985) 879-3866 and FAX machine (985) 879-3911 operate 24 hours a day.

NAUTICAL CHART & PUBLICATIONS AGENT.  Marine Education Textbooks is a nautical chart agent for the National Ocean Service.  We serve all Gulf Coast, inland waterways, western rivers and offshore marine interests as well as the requirements of license candidates and our textbook readers.  We also laminate charts, maps and other documents upon request.  We maintain a complete stock of NOS publications including all catalogs, all Coast Pilots, and charts of the entire Gulf of Mexico from Key West, FL to Brownsville, TX, including the Intracoastal Waterway and the Caribbean.  We maintain East Coast chart coverage from Key West to Jacksonville, FL.  We also stock the training charts used for USCG license exams.

We also keep an up-to-date Catalog of foreign charts.  We maintain chart coverage of the Caribbean Sea and stock all the NIMA publications including the plotting sheets listed in our catalog. Many of our textbook dealers, who are also Chart Agents, carry the publications we do not stock.

INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION PUBLICATIONS.  Marine Education Textbooks deals in publications of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), an agency of the United Nations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM and other international conventions.  Schools, maritime instructors and company trainers may also order IMO model training courses, which we keep in stock.

U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS CHART BOOKS.  Marine Education Textbooks stocks most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers chartbooks of "western rivers" to serve regional marine interests and persons preparing for Coast Guard licenses.

SELF-ADHESIVE MARINE MARKINGS.  Marine Education Textbooks prepares and markets all-weather self-adhesive signs for the marine industry.  We are also a distributor of DATREX and Maritime Progress Signs.  Many signs fulfill U.S. Coast Guard marking requirements as listed in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) or as required by SOLAS regulations. Other signs are designed for safety, warning, instructional or informational purposes or are signs suggested or requested by insurance underwriters.  A number of our signs are in Spanish and English.  We stock hundreds of different signs commonly used aboard commercial vessels and drilling rigs including the safety signs recommended by the International Maritime Organization.  We can produce other standard signs in quantity upon request.  Request our separate sign catalog. We stock all the signs listed in this catalog.  Many of these signs can also be ordered on request on photo luminescent material. We are the exclusive distributor of Operational Radar Service signs.

POSTERS AND PLACARDS.  Marine Education Textbooks also stocks or prints a number of hard-to-find posters and placards required for vessel inspections and can tell you of posters no longer required by the regulations.

STENCIL CUTTING.  Marine Education Textbooks cuts 1 inch to 12 inch stencils on oilboard to use with spray paint for vessel markings and other purposes. Complete stencil and sign kits are available for vessels which must undergo Coast Guard inspection. We can cut individual stencils to your specifications. We offer one-day service on 1" and 2" machine-cut stencils. We cut larger stencils by hand on special order.

COPY SHOP SERVICE.  Marine Education Textbooks can reproduce various types of printed information upon request. If we have the information you need in our reference library, you are welcome to it for the price of the copy plus postage.

Besides our own publications we have a number of federal publications in our reference library of interest to the maritime community which we can copy upon request. These include the Federal Register from October 11, 1984 to present, Titles 33, 46 and 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), all current Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circulars (NVICS) and the Marine Safety Manual (MSM).

While we can reproduce government documents, we cannot reproduce copyrighted material unless we have permission of the author or the copyright holders.  Consult our price list for per-page prices on copies and reprints to fulfill your specific requirements.

SALES OUTLET.  Marine Education Textbooks are sold directly by mail and through dealers, instructors and agents in principal United States ports.  We encourage you to use the services of the nearest nautical book dealer stocking our products where you can examine our books before making a purchase. We invite inquiries by booksellers, schools offering nautical courses, and individual instructors.

VESSEL INSPECTIONS.  We believe that there should be no reason to delay issuing an inspection certificate for missing publications and do our best to stock all pubs normally required for vessel inspections. Request our information bulletin Pubs-2, which is a checklist for the Nautical Publication and forms, required on Inspected Vessels.
